Battle of the Badges – Round 1

Welcome to the “Battle of the Badges” Famous Food Festival 2019!

We’re excited and look forward to hosting this fierce and friendly competition.

This year’s first cook-off will begin at the Deer Park Tanger Outlets, Saturday, July 13, where we will host a team of five
chefs from Suffolk County PD versus The Famous Meatballers (Team of firemen).

Each team of five chefs will be given one mystery basket of ingredients, which will be used to create an appetizer, entrée
and a dessert for a panel of Famous Chef Judges.

Each team will be given 40 minutes to prepare each course. Each course will be judged on:
Taste, Plating & Creativity

Groceries provided by Stop and Shop
Knives provided by Cutco
Cooking Stations provided by UltraStones (marble) and Sparrow Landscaping (masonry)
Here’s the lineup of our Cook-off Judges:
Chef Marc Anthony Bynum – 3x Chopped Champion, on Cover of O (Oprah)
Brimstone – Grindhouse Radio, Won Best Long Island Personality, from Best of Long Island Competition
Chef Tom Schaudel – Long Island Restaurateur and TV celebrity chef and owner of Jewel (Melville), A Lure Chowder House & Osteria (Southold), A Mano Osteria & Wine Bar (Mattituck) and Ross-Schaudel Catering & Event Planning (Mattituck). He will be opening two new restaurants in September: Be Ju Sashimi Bar (Melville) and Petulant Wino (North Fork).
Chef Gail Chandler –  Cake Lady, Queen of Mobile.
The winning team of the first round, taking place this weekend in Deer Park and the winning team of the next round taking place at Tanger Riverhead in August will battle at the final round, taking place at Deer Park in October.  At the championship round, the winning team will win $4000 cash donation and the losing team will will $1000.

The following Chef Competition rounds will begin promptly at 2 PM and be given 40 minutes to prepare each course and
will be given 20 minutes per round for judging:

  • The appetizer round: 2:00 – 2:40
  • The entree round: 3:00 – 3:40
  • The dessert round: 4:00 – 4:40

The winners from the July and August battles will go on to the championship round in October where they will face off
for winning prizes.

Prizes:
Winning team will be awarded with a $4000 donation
Losing team will be awarded with a $1000 donation
